Episode 069 | Happiness is a Real Problem
What does it mean to be happy? How do you know if you’ve heard the voice of God or just your own subconscious? And how on earth can an a-hole, well, stop being an a-hole? Pastor Matt Brown gives real answers to tough questions about happiness.
This episode begins with a conversation for parents describing how to discipline a child's bad behavior while also engaging them in real conversations about heart issues. Pastor Matt then explains how prayer can increase our faith, help us overcome anxiety and enable us to embrace life. The team then gets real about the inequality of suffering and how we can create realistic expectations in order to be reasonably happy in this life while anticipating incomparable joy in the next.
The episode continues as Pastor Matt and the team debrief last week's message, "How Jesus Can Make You Happy," by discussing how to distinguish God's voice and his will and how to seek and define happiness in your present circumstance.
The team ends this episode by talking about the way in which relational restrictions actually enable happy relationships, some of the doctrinal differences between Sandals Church and Seventh Day Adventists, the psychotropic effects of marijuana and the importance of seeking Christian counsel when deciding to whether or not to use it for medicinal purposes.

The Serenity Prayer written by Reinhold Niebuhr
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen
